SLUG Anniversary Party & Fashion Show

SLUG Magazine is thrilled to present the 28th Anniversary Party Fashion Show. The celebration will take place at The Depot on Saturday, March 25—doors open at 7 p.m., fashion show at 8:00 p.m. This is an all-ages event with a fantastic DJ lineup: DJ Typefunk, AudioTreats, Devareaux, Du Preea, NIGHTFREQ

The show will feature 28 local designers, who will each showcase a look to represent a year of the magazine’s existence from 1989 to 2016:

In this lineup, Jennifer McGrew of McGrew Studios was assigned the year 2009. She is designing a tribute dress to The Cramps and its lead singer Lux Interior, who died that year. Rest in peace, Lux. The dress features custom dye sublimation printed fabric with Cramps logos as well as album art from their first discography collection, Bad Music for Bad People. Black goose biot trimming and perhaps even some pinwheels are garnishes for this look, which promises to be a crowd pleaser.

Learn actual Hollywood behind-the-scenes tips, the differences between real and movie fighting plus the choreography of some of your favorite films. If you're truly dedicated to your craft, nothing will keep you from becoming a master.

Adrian Paul is an actor renowned for his lead role as Duncan Macleod in the action series Highlander. The show spanned 6 seasons, 117 episodes and ran in over 90 countries world wide. As well as starring in numerous action films, including two Highlander Films, he has also choreographed numerous sword fights and action sequences for both television and film during his 30 year entertainment career.

McGrew Studios' production designer Hraefn Wulfson has designed and built the cutom set for this famous event.

Participating members of the McGrews' cartel at this convention include production designer and personality,  Hraefn Wulfson, as the main stage's master-of-ceremonies.  Crit Killen presents several times, bringing stories and props from his work on spooky film industry projects including Beetlejuice, Blade Runner, Aliens and more.  Jennifer McGrew heads up the cosplay scene as the convention's official contest director and Robert Hirschi is the official cosplay contest photographer. We are all looking forward to this festival's first season and many more to come!

What's actually at the essence of steampunk's timeless cultural appeal in art, storytelling and fashion? And where are its trends headed? The details of what we see on Steampunk's interesting and sometimes ornate surfaces can be psychologically excavated to reveal deeply rooted human convictions, lofty as well as biased. Join Hraefn (pronounced “Raven”), fine artist, maker, producer and production designer in this discussion that may reify (as well as challenge) some of your perceptions about what you're actually proclaiming when you celebrate or criticize steampunk.

Part of its annual SLCC Fashion Club outreach program, Project Catwalk is aimed toward high school students interested in learning more about fashion design and merchandising, as well as introducing them to possible pathways for achieving their career goals.
The guest Speaker forum will be held in room 116 at the SLCC Library Square Campus. We have set aside 90 minutes for the guest speaker forum, from 5:00- 6:30 including time for questions and answers. Each panelist provides a bit of history and explains what they do, how they became involved in the fashion industry, and what they found most critical in achieving their success.
