“Protein Pete” Custom Mascot for Just Ingredients

mcgrewsadmin · November 24, 2025 ·

A new, super flexible, danceable mascot for Just Ingredients and their high energy performer.

Pete danced non-stop during Just Ingredients’ 3-day marathon game show!

This mascot is made with high density closed-cell foam plus crenelated foam to give him that extra “bounce”.

We had his outer fabric custom printed in dye sublimation, to crisply feature Just Ingredients’ product graphics.

We also made him a giant custom baseball cap that he can wear forwards, backwards or sideways!

Ogden-Weber Applied Technical College (OWATC) is the first trade-tech school in Utah to develop a branded mascot to promote its educational mission and programs.

Robert Hirschi, multimedia journalist for the Salt Lake Tribune, presents a behind-the-scenes account of some of the steps in this creative process as well as the people behind it. Interviewed are OWATC creative directors Brock Porter and Jenny Everson, plus costume maker Jen McGrew with Katrina Kirkland-Cornia.

His documentary details the mascot from concept to realized costume for OWATC’s performer to wear at job fairs, parades, etc.
